Handcrafted bassoon reeds made by Malaysian Philharmonic principal bassoonist Alexandar Lenkov.

Beautifully balanced these reeds have an effortless response without compromising that solid tonal core. Slightly firmer in feel they break in beautifully. This is Alex’s Rieger 1a shape.

About the maker:

Alexandar Lenkov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria to a musical family. He started playing the piano at the age of five, and bassoon at the age of 14, studying at the National Music School Lubomir Pipkov in Sofia, Bulgaria. During his school years, Lenkov won the First Prize in the ‘Young Musical Talents’ Competition in 1996. Lenkov proceeded to Germany to complete his studies at the prestigious music universities University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, and the Cologne University of Music, under the tutelage of Professor Georg Klütsch.

During his time in Germany, he performed with many orchestras including the Bamberg Symphony, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra. In 2004, Lenkov joined the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and since 2007 has been Section Principal Bassoon. He has performed under conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, and Kees Bakel.
