SOLD – Second Hand Heckel Contra Bassoon
SOLD
A rare opportunity to own your very own Heckel Contrabassoon.
This instrument is a wonderful example of an early Heckel Contrabassoon. Manufactured in February 1908, this supercentenarian displays many original features as well as some simple and tasteful key modifications. The body is in a good overall condition but does show signs of previous repairs including some superficial crack repairs around the bell body braces. Plating is solid where it remains with touch pieces being smooth with minimal pitting. One notable feature with this instrument is its’s fixed lead pipe and absent tuning slide which was just being introduced around the same time of manufacture.
It has a very sweet and delicate tone with a rich and round core. Responds well across the full range and is nice and compact under the fingers.
This instrument has had regular maintenance whilst in the care of its current owner and has just been serviced by Bassoon Factory. One more overhaul should be factored in if it is to see itself through to 150 years old. Comes supplied with 1 bocal (choose between a Heckel No 0 or a No 2), soft gig bag as well as hard road case.
‘This is a beauuuuuuutiful Contra. I was lucky enough to have a play of it recently’ – Claire Ramuscak – Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

- Pinky Eb and C# Rollers
- 3rd finger Eb / C rollers
- Low F/Ab rollers
